Fredricka Joyner is an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs' Executive Education Program. Her areas of expertise focus on partnering with individuals, organizations, and communities to unleash potential and achieve new levels of performance. This work takes many forms and usually addresses aspects of three fundamental questions: What should we do? How are we doing? and/or How do we need to grow?

Fredricka is a well-grounded practitioner with 20 years of experience in diverse organizational contexts. Her deep understanding of the client perspective is informed by having served 11 years as a member of a senior team in health care. In her most recent roles, Fredricka has accomplished the following:

  • Designed and implemented a best practice leadership development and succession planning process.
  • Led a cultural transformation initiative that built a culture of respect and caring leading to improved community image and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Created an innovative organizational work/life balance strategy that included an award-winning model for employer-sponsored childcare.
  • Facilitated operations restructuring and process redesign efforts that received a national performance improvement award.
  • Designed and facilitated the implementation of a comprehensive continuous improvement process tightly linked to strategic initiatives including customer satisfaction and patient safety.
  • Facilitated organizational change initiatives and action learning projects.

Fredricka is also a professor in the undergraduate and graduate business programs of Indiana University, Columbus campus. She is an accomplished speaker and trainer and makes frequent local, regional, and national presentations. Fredricka has authored numerous journal articles such as Building Bridges: Enhancing the Possibility of Partnership and Quality and Participation in Community Settings that address community-based work.

Fredricka has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and Education from New College, a Master's Degree in Organizational Management with a concentration in organization development from Antioch University Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Community Formation from Union Institute. Recent continuing education has focused on developing expertise in the field of leadership development including topics such as creating a leadership development infrastructure, assessment, coaching, emotional intelligence, and a succession planning pipeline.

In the 2004 U.S. News and World Report graduate school rankings, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI was ranked 35th of 253 public affairs schools. SPEA's Indianapolis criminal justice program was ranked 3rd in the nation and the nonprofit management program was ranked 4th in the nation.
